Statement by IJC President Vladimir Sloutsker on Yom Kippur Terror Attack in Halle Germany

“Coming out of Yom Kippur, I was horrified and deeply saddened at the news of the terror attack in Halle Germany, where a gunman killed two people, as he sought to enter a Synagogue, as Jews were making Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year.
First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims. May their memories be blessed and all those injured in this horrific attack, have full and speedy recoveries.
The shooting in Halle follows an attack on the Jewish community only days ago in Berlin, when a man carrying a knife sought to storm a Synagogue, however was stopped by security.
According to reports, incidents of Antisemitic violence in Germany increased by 71.4% in 2018.
In the wake of this latest vicious rise of Jew hatred in Germany, including violent attacks of terror, we say enough empty condemnations and message of solidarity. It is time for real, immediate & tangible action. The Jewish community, as citizens of Europe, must be protected and have the basic right to practise and live in freedom & peace.”
