IJC Statement on President Abbas’ Incendiary and Antisemitic Remarks
In a speech last night before the PLO Central Council, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that “Israel is a colonial project that has nothing to do with Judaism,” adding that the “Europeans wanted to bring the Jews here to preserve their interests in the region.”
These remarks are vile and incendiary, peddling classic hateful Antisemitic conspiracies. These are not the actions of a statesman or leader interested in peace, but rather someone seeking to spread hate and incite further violence.
The Israeli-Jewish Congress (IJC) calls on the international community, which often does not hesitate to condemn Israel over building of settlements or other internal matters, to immediately and unreservedly condemn President Abbas over these hateful and inflammatory remarks.
