Statement by IJC President Vladimir Sloutsker Congratulating Natan Sharansky on Receiving the Israel Prize
“I was delighted to hear that my friend, Natan Sharansky, is to be the recipient of this year’s Israel Prize for his contribution to promoting immigration and working with Diaspora Jewry.
I really could not think of a more worthy recipient of Israel’s most prestigious prize!
In many ways, Natan’s story is also the modern-day story of the Jewish people.
As a ‘refusenik’ and ‘Prisoner of Zion’, Natan is a tremendous source of inspiration to all the Jewish people. He is the very epitome of the Zionist ideal, someone who has tirelessly devoted his life to the cause of the State of Israel and the Jewish people worldwide.
The Israeli-Jewish Congress (IJC) has been privileged to work with The Jewish Agency under Natan’s leadership, on a range of projects and initiatives to connect the Jewish people to the State of Israeli and to be their voice here. We look forward to continuing this important mission and again take the opportunity to wish Natan the deepest of congratulations on his award of the Israel Prize.”
