IJC President Vladimir Sloutsker Condemns Horrific Violence & Antisemitism in Europe In Response to President Trump’s Statement on Jerusalem

The Israeli – Palestinian conflict must never be used as a pretext for the expression of hatred, violence and Antisemitism in Europe.”

10 December, 2017

In these last days, we have witnessed some highly disturbing scenes emanating from the streets of Europe in response to President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

In Berlin and London, there were protests with chants of ‘death to Jews’ and flags of Hezbollah being proudly waved.

In Sweden, a Synagogue was firebombed in Gothenburg, while in Malmo protestors chanted “shoot the Jews.”

In Amsterdam, the window of a Kosher restaurant was smashed.

In Paris, they called to ‘free’ Palestine from ‘The River to the Sea’, a direct euphemism for the destruction of Israel.

The Israeli-Jewish Congress (IJC) President Vladimir Sloutsker:

“Yet again, we are seeing Israel being used as an excuse to express blatant, sickening hatred and Antisemitism in Europe, reminiscent of the ugly scenes we saw on the streets of Europe in the wake of Hamas war against Israel in the summer of 2014.

Such threats of incitement and direct violence have no place in Europe, not now, not ever.

We call on European leaders to take immediate action against the perpetrators, while unequivocally denouncing their statements and reiterating that the Israeli – Palestinian conflict must never be used as a pretext for the expression of such hatred, violence and Antisemitism in Europe.

Today, as the world community marks International Human Rights Day, such leadership is necessary more than ever!”
