IJC strongly welcomes decision of EU to adopt anti-BDS stance in new official commercial policy
The Israeli-Jewish Congress (IJC) strongly welcomes the decision of the European Union to clearly state its opposition and rejection of boycotts against Israel in their just released Report on Competition Policy for 2016.
The clause on boycotts, instituted by leading pro-Israel Member of European Parliament, Fulvio Martusciello, states that the European Commission:
Underlines the need to fight against unfair collective boycotts, defined as a situation in which a group of competitors agree to exclude an actual or potential competitor, as restrictions of competition by object.”
This clause marks the first time EU opposition to BDS has been codified in official EU commercial policy.
The global BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) Movement is not only a campaign of hate, bigotry and Antisemitism against the State of Israel and the Jewish people, but it runs wholly contrary to trade, competition and non-discrimination laws.
The Israeli-Jewish Congress applauds the initiative of MEP Martusciello and looks forward to using this as an opportunity to further strength the important strategic relationship between Israel and the EU.
