Visit to Israel of Polish President Andrzej Duda
The Israeli-Jewish Congress (IJC) was honored to participate at a special event in Jerusalem today hosted by the Israeli Council on Foreign Relations and the Polish Institute of International Affairs, on the occasion of the state visit of the President of Poland, His Excellency Andrzej Duda.
During the event, in which IJC Executive Director Arsen Ostrovsky had the privilege of meeting with President Duda, the President gave a fascinating and wide-raning address, extolling the strength of the Polish – Israel relations, with an unequivocal support for Israel’s fight against terror and a commitment to enhance relations with Israel even further. The President also spoke about many of the regional and geo-political challenges, including in the Middle East and EU.
You can read the full text of President Duda’s remarks here and included below are some of the key quotes:
Poland and Israel enjoy very good relations, and our nations have shared more than a thousand years of mutual interaction.”
I would like to commend Israel`s actions aimed at fighting terrorism.”
The Republic of Poland is aware that for Israel the fundamental challenge in the Middle East region is presented by its relations with the Palestinian side. We are consistent in our support for initiatives aimed at working out a two-state model of peaceful coexistence. We believe that the reopening of peace talks is possible, however without imposing concrete outcomes, which should be achieved in the course of direct negotiations. The resulting lasting peace should take into consideration the interests of both parties, including the security of the Jewish State, acknowledgment of Israel by the Arab States, as well as complete normalization of mutual relations.”
I wish to express my satisfaction with the high volume of economic exchange between Poland and Israel. Nevertheless, we can still see a big potential for deepening our cooperation in the sector of innovations and high technologies. Isreal unquestionably is one of the leaders in the area of innovation. That is why I have brought with me representatives of Polish start-ups, young and innovative buisnesses who hope to establish cooperation with Israeli companies. I hope that my visit will give a strong impulse to furthering Polish-Israeli economic relations.”
With Poland being one of Israel’s strongest allies in Europe, with great personal and historic significance to the Jewish people, IJC will be privileged to do all in our efforts, including working with our friends and partners in Israel and the Polish Jewish community, like TSKZ, to strengthen this special bond even further.
IJC Executive Director Arsen Ostrovsky, with His Excellency, Andrzej Duda, President of Poland.
